Think about the activities you enjoy. Possibly, when you see a sign for an Open House, you walk through and take a look even if you’re not searching for a new home. Maybe you want to see the design of the house, check out the cabinetry or chat with the real estate agent about the housing market. Whatever it is that interests you reflects your personality type.
When working with a Career Counselor, the best first step for you may not be to identify a specific job, but rather a potential field(s) that will appeal to you. The dictionary defines a FIELD as “a sphere of activity, interests, etc., especially within a particular business or profession”. Identifying your unique preferences and personality type are the key to finding the right “sphere” for you. For example, the engineering field is very broad with a wide range of specialties including: electrical, mechanical, chemical and biomedical. The same is true with the fields of medicine, education and business. Working with a career counselor trained in personality type will help you to delve more deeply into your unique preferences, the first step to finding the field and then the job of your dreams!
